Great very happy! June 12, 2010 Mr. C. Tyler (England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this as a second controller for my ps3 as my friend was coming round! So i needed it to play with him, this is great, it works 100% The fans on the side are amazing they keep your hands nice and cool there are 3 air settings. Off,Medium and strong the vents work very well. There is also no delay on the controller so it is easy to play cod and any other games. The controller came the next day, which is very good. It is definitly worth the money and i reccomend this controller to anyone!
A cheap alternative, but not as good as the real thing. April 9, 2010 T. Hughes (Portsmouth, UK) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
My offical Sixaxis control pad broke recently, so I needed to buy a replacement as a back-up to my other official control pad. I rarely play on my PS3 with anyone else, so having two Sixaxis controllers wasn't a must. I was looking for something cheap, and could do the job should anything happen to my other control pad.
First impressions were good. The control pad looks very modern and stylish, and fits nicely in the hands. When I plugged it into my PS3, the cooling fans switched on automatically. This is an excellent feature and does a great job of keeping your hands cool. You can either set the fans to be on low, high, or not have them on at all.
Being a big Modern Warfare 2 fan, I decided to test out the Chillstream pad whilst playing this game. Those who play FPS games would know that having good reactions can be the difference between a good and bad player. Unfortunately, your reactions are only as good as the game pad you are using. And while the response of the analogue sticks weren't horrendous, they did not match up to that of the official Sony controller. The sensitivity of the analogue sticks were also not up to scratch. On the official control pad, the slightest movement of the analogue sticks would produce a small amount of response. Whereas on the Chillstream, you need to move the analogues stick slightly more in order to gain any reaction. Now while this may not seem like a big deal, when it comes to rotating and aiming down your gun on an FPS game, it can either cause you to overshoot your rotation, or not rotate at all.
As you can probably gather, this control pad is not suited for Modern Warfare 2 gamers. Having come to this conclusion myself, I decided to try it out on a game that required more tactical knowledge rather than skill - Fifa 10. After playing a few games, it appeared that the sensitivity of the analogue sticks was not an issue and I was able to play to the same ability as if I were using the official Sixaxis controller.
In conclusion, the Logitech Chillstream offers a cheap alternative to the official control pad. The cooling fans are a great feature and are ideal for those sweaty-palmed gamers out there. However with a slight lack of response, it is more suited for more casual games that require a little less skill. As you may also know, the Chillstream doesn't have a PS button, so you can't access the XMB whilst in game to message your online buddies.
For a cheap back-up to your official controller, this is a great option. However, if you are looking for more quality and are willing to fork-out a bit more for it, the official PS3 control pad is your best option.
OK but needs a few improvements March 15, 2010 Andrew (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The controller is OK but a bit slow responding so not probably suitable for all you Call Of Duty fans. There is no PS button and it is a bit slow responding which is why I rate this controller 4 stars, but is OK for mates coming round. There is a fan which keeps your hands cool via vents on the controller. It also works with my computer (Windows 7) just plugged it in and off I went.
Good specialist controller, not just a gimick! February 11, 2010 Mr. M. J. Kimpton (Sheffield, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The fan on this controller might sound like a bit of a gimick but I actually found it handy to turm on during frantic online games of call of duty 3 or inbetween racers of NFS Shift for a quick cool down after a long race.
Also this controller is great for the afore mentioned game as it allows you make the directional pad mimic the right analog stick so now I can play NFS Shift "old school" using the d-pad as this function was not offerd in the games control options!
The R2 & L2 buttons are not triggers but clickable buttons (like R1 & L2 on a official pad) which I prefered as i find holding down the triggers annoying and uncomfortable, I also found this controller sat in my hands better than a standard one although its probably a little bit too big for kids.
There are a couple a drawbacks with this controller though (i nearly showed my age by saying game pad!) firstly the wire is a little shorter than i would like it is a foot or so longer than a standard Sixaxis Wireless Controller charging cable but you may wish to purchace a USB cable extension lead if you sit far back form your console or like your wire to be lose on the floor. Also as others have stated this conroller has no PS button so to quit your games you will need to your wireless Controller.
Lastly this controller has no rumble/shock feature or Sixaxis support due to requiring space for a fan for the air cooling system. I have always found rumble features a distraction personally and im not a fan (no pun intended!) of Sixaxis motion when it's added onto games like it was on call of duty 3, luckly most games including COD3 allow you to swap Sixaxis motion sections to standard input so most (if not all) standard games will be playable with this controller.
In summary this is a good specialist item and a decent second controller for non motion games, but it's not a replacment for a standard Sixaxis Wireless Controller or DualShock 3.
Warning for Call of duty, players January 16, 2010 Mr. D. S. Bawden (uk, cornwall, Hayle) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This controller is a brilliant idea as your hands do sometimes get sweaty in the summer while playing, but the controller does no have the best of reaction times (for cod,did not use it on any other, sleep over). and a sixaxis cotroller is much much lighter (not including the dual shock2) so if i were you stick to the sweaty hands because bad gaming isn't worth it.
